After noticing that I also offer clinical hypnotherapy, a number of people have asked me recently how hypnotherapy for weight loss works.
Firstly, it may seem an odd combination – a chiropractor who’s also a hypnotherapist. I see the two modalities complementing each other nicely. Through my years in private practice, I came to understand that some people needed help on more than just the physical aspect. That’s why I trained as a clinical hypnotherapist alongside general practitioners, psychologists, mental health nurses and social workers; to help my patients further on their path to healing.
With respect to weight loss, many studies have proven the effectiveness of including hypnotherapy in treatment. One study followed over a hundred participants who were lead through a nine-week behavioural treatment program, with and without the addition of hypnosis. Both groups had lost weight by the end of the program. However, the fascinating thing is that the hypnotherapy group had greater weight loss at the eight month and two year follow up.
How does hypnotherapy for weight loss work?
That depends on your reason for wishing to lose weight; there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. We may address habits, addiction, your personal relationship with food, or a number of different approaches.
Hypnotherapy for weight loss is aimed at helping you overcome your personal barriers to attaining your goal weight.
As with any other hypnotherapy session, you will be guided to a relaxed state and given prompts to address your unique issues. You will be awake and in control at all times and may exit the session at your will. Most people say that clinical hypnosis feels like a deeply relaxing rest.
