Doctorate of Chiropractic
Bachelor of Science
Certificate of Clinical Hypnosis
2001 was a difficult year, but it was also the year I took a massive leap of faith by enrolling at Palmer College to become a Chiropractor.
Six very hard years later, I realised that dream, graduated with a Doctorate of Chiropractic and a Bachelor of Applied Science and moved my family to Australia. I’ve been a Chiropractor in Brisbane and the Wide Bay-Burnett regions ever since.
How it all began
I was born and raised in Clarence, Iowa, a small town in Midwest USA that features hot summers and brutal winters. The values I learned there have stood me in good stead ever since.
I was about eight years old when an incident involving a headstand and ‘completely innocent’ sibling resulted in me not being able to turn my head. I was first introduced to the field of chiropractic care that day and straight away I was fascinated by the real human skeleton the chiropractor had in the corner.
Moving to Chicago, a much larger city, in my twenties, taught me a lot about life and people. I had my family there. And not long after that, my life as I knew it changed beyond belief.
A medical crisis of my own left me unable to work and by then I was solely responsible for raising my boys. To say it was a stressful time of my life is an understatement.
An ex-colleague recommended I see his wife, a newly-graduated chiropractor, and she put me back together mentally, physically and emotionally. It was a long road to recovery but I chose to follow the path of learning and healing – both for myself and for others.
In late 2001 I enrolled in bridging courses in anatomy, chemistry and physics at Scott Community College and early the following year I began full-time tertiary education at Palmer College of Chiropractic.
Always drawn to help those in need, I immediately felt at home on campus and knew that I had found my true calling in this life.
Making ends meet while studying full time and raising my boys was a challenge, to say the least, but their support and my determination got me to the finish line. Against all odds, graduation day finally came and with it an immense sense of accomplishment and relief.
Soon after graduation, I had the opportunity to come to The Land Down Under and I jumped at the chance to make a better life for my family.
While I can’t say the sailing has been entirely smooth, we’re now well settled Australian citizens and I have the honour of helping people lead healthier, happier lives.
My approach to treating patients draws on all my experience in small towns and big cities, as well as a decade of private practice, to tailor a program of healing unique to the individual.
